Habitat 825
How cool is this housing unit?? I looooove the color scheme (surprise, surprise)! It's great to see such thoughtful and creative solutions for multi-family housing complexes.
Habitat 825 is a 53,000 square foot, multi-family housing unit from California architecture firm Lorcan O'Herlihy (LOHA). Located in West Hollywood, this 19-unit complex seeks to develop new forms of contemporary lifestyle through the use of light, materials, colors, and a common open space.
Two interlocking L shapes create this open space, which is accessible by each unit. This common space also functions as a natural form of climate control for the interior corridors, allowing air to pass through and regulate the temperature.
Additionally, private outdoor areas are set within this main space. Separated by landscaping elements rather than "hard" walls or divisions, these spaces enable privacy within an otherwise communal framework.

What a great feature!
Love this house, it's quite cool and sharp lines, the light and the open spaces.
I like your blog too;)
It is a pretty cool structure, isn't it? And I agree, the light in it is fantastic!
Thanks for stopping by the blog! I hope you enjoy what you find! :)
I'm not sure that the bright green color is timeless (I could see it aging poorly), but the overall design is very well thought out and awesome!
Ellen, you make a good point. The lime green probably won't age well, but it certainly makes a statement right now! :) Is there a color that would be more timeless, yet still have that wow factor, I wonder? Ideas?
Yea lime green wont do it any justice in the coming years. Instead of colour, material bares potential to proper aging aswell.
Jonathan - I think you're on to something! Rather than color, differing materials/textures would definitely help this building age more gracefully. Ideas for unique materials that would provide a similarly powerful contrast as the lime?
As a facade material, Corten - steel that rusts over time, cedar left unfinished that will age from raw red to soft grey?
Lee - Great ideas! I think the steel would create the same impact as far as color and contrast. I can picture this structure with the orange/rust color and it would be gorgeous! :)
